Thank you! (from Fr. Jamie)

I would like to sincerely thank everyone who worked hard this past week to make our liturgies work smoothly.  Thank you to our acolytes, lectors, eucharistic ministers, altar guild members,  flower organizers, ushers, impromptu children’s preacher and those who cleaned up after the services. You all made these liturgies run smoothly.

Thank you to our cantors and especially thank you to our organist James Mackay, who proved us with some incredible music.

I am personally grateful for each of you.

Our attendance at each of Holy Week liturgies increased, and several fo our liturgies were very well-attended. Thank you especially to everyone who worshipped and shared their presence.

Although I am physically exhausted after this week of activity, please know I am so grateful to be serving such a vibrant, amazing and committed congregation as St. Stephen’s.

St. Stephen’s showed yet again that it was a worshipping community, striving to live out in its life the commission of the Risen Christ.

St. Stephen’s was well-represented at the Easter Vigil last night at Gethsemane Cathedral.

Tenebrae

Easter Letter from Fr. Jamie

Lent – Easter, 2016

As most of you know and have heard me say on many occasions: Easter is, by far, my favorite Season in the Church Year. I love it not only for the Paschal Mystery we celebrate and contemplate; I love it as well because, like our baptismal faith, it is about renewal and rebirth.

During this Easter Season I would like to extend to you my blessings and deepest gratitude. St. Stephen’s has become a place and community in which I am finding myself rejoicing and giving thanks on a daily basis. We are  community constantly renewing itself in God’s Spirit. Our continued commitment to welcome and include all people equally in the life of Christ is truly making a difference in people’s lives.

As we near Easter I would like to invite each of you to join with me in commemorating Jesus’ last week during Holy Week and celebrating this great and beautiful Event of the Resurrection at St. Stephen’s. There are plenty of opportunities for worship during Holy Week and the Easter Season. A schedule of Holy Week/Easter events is included in this mailing.

So, please do join in this beautiful and important time of the Year by worshipping at St. Stephen’s.

And again, please know of my deep gratitude and joy in being able to serve alongside you at St. Stephen’s. Each of you remain in my daily prayers. Please include me in yours as well.
Peace,

Fr. Jamie Parsley

Becoming Darcy: Fifth Anniversary Celebration

Join our very own Darcy Corbitt-Hall on this very important anniversary in her life.

Join award-winning transgender advocate for a celebration of her fifth year of an exciting and barrier-breaking journey to becoming a better version of herself.

On March 21, 2011, Darcy was publicly outed to her family. As a result, she lost most of her family, many of her friends, and her future was uncertain. Through tremendous resilience, undying hope, and extraordinary courage, Darcy has overcome terrible odds to find joy and meaning in a world which seeks to silence and erase transgender individuals.

The event will include the popular Becoming Darcy talk, with emphasis on Darcy's goals for transgender equality in the upper Midwest over the next five years and how ordinary people can do extraordinary things to make our communities more inclusive and accepting of everyone.

Reception will follow.

Event is free and open to the public!
