New Prayer station

A big thank you to Jessica Pitzel Anderson for putting up this prayer station for intercessory prayer in the narthex. I also forgot to thank Jessica for the new holders and beautiful displays for the retable on the altar.

New Bell Tower!!!

A very good day on this Feast of the Sacred Heart for St. Stephen's! We acquired our new (actually 61 year old) bell tower!! The old steel "steeple" at the about-to-be-demolished St. Paul's Newman Center at NDSU will be delivered next week. It is almost like it was custom made for our congregation, with colored Mondrian-like panels and all. It was no doubt even constructed by the same company who made the white steel cross on our steeple (St. Stephen's was built in 1956, the Newman Center in 1958). It still needs much work to accommodate our bell, but, for now, one step at a time. I was also surprised to learn that it is much taller than I originally thought, topping out at almost 40 feet!

Did YOU know there were house numbers above the front door to the church? After 11 years as the priest of St. St. Stephen's I just noticed the numbers the other day. Today, I took them down and painted them. Now they match the trim and look pretty darn vibrant (comparitively)! Be sure to notice them the next time you come to Mass.

After Mass and Vestry today, I took down the beautiful wooden Chi Rho that hung above the stairs from the narthex to the undercroft and brought it home to clean for the first time ever. It's now hanging above the entrance into the nave where it can be appreciated by every one.

Tomorrow is the great feast of Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. Put on your best red outfit and join us as we celebrate the Holy Spirit. And, at the end of the Mass, we will process the Paschal Candle back the baptismal font, ending a particularly beautiful season of Easter.
