March Earth Day (Equinox Earth Day)
When: Around March 20th, the Spring Equinox.
Focus: A day for global solidarity, peace, and
highlighting the planet's shared need for preservation, observed with a
bell-ringing ceremony at the UN.
Origin: Proposed by peace activist John McConnell in
1969, with the first proclamation by San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto in 1970.
