Fr. Jamie's 20th Anniversary of Diaconal Ordination

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out for the Mass in celebration of my 20th anniversary of Diaconal ordination. The church was full, and at supper at Passage to India we filled up three tables. It was a truly wonderful evening. I am so grateful for all these wonderful people I get to serve.

Words of Wisdom:

I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do. ~ Edward Everett Hale

Green Team tips:

Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) is a small fluorescent light bulb that uses 75% less energy than a traditional incandescent bulb and can be screwed into a regular light socket. Don't let the fact that it is fluorescent turn you off! ENERGY STAR qualified CFLs must pass extensive testing to ensure they produce only the highest quality light.

Why should people use CFLs?

Switching from traditional light bulbs to CFLs is an effective, accessible change anyone can make right now to reduce energy use at your business or at home. Lighting accounts for close to 20 percent of the average home's electric bill. Changing to CFLs costs little upfront and provides a quick return on your investment. Using CFLs is also a way to prevent the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global climate change.

If every home in America replaced just one incandescent light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified CFL, it would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes and prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of more than 800,000 cars annually.

Words of Wisdom:

At the end, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back. ~Denzel Washington

From the Green Team:

Something to think about. The Earth is 4.6 billion years old. Let’s scale that to 46 years. We have been here for 4 hours. Our industrial revolution began 1 minute ago. In that time, we have destroyed more than 50% of the world’s forests. This isn’t sustainable.

·       Planting one tree in an open field can increase bird biodiversity from zero to 80.

·       3 trees properly placed around a house can save up to 30% of energy use.

Today at Mass we celebrated Andrea Olsen 's official name change, based on a brand new liturgy found in the latest edition of The Book of Occasional Services. Here she is after Mass in front of our famous (or, to some, notorious) Rainbow/Integrity window. We're all so happy for you, Andrea!

Congratulations, Amy and Josh!

A HUGE congratulations to Amy Morrow Stalboerger and Josh Stalboerger who were married last evening!
