Episcopal Key Milestones & Facts:

1976: The General Convention of The Episcopal Church approved the ordination of women as priests and bishops, paving the way for female leaders. The first Woman Bishop (Anglican Communion): Barbara Harris, consecrated a suffragan bishop in Massachusetts in 1989.

Katharine Jefferts Schori became the first female Presiding Bishop and Primate of The Episcopal Church in 2006, a historic first for the Anglican Communion.
